I didn’t have much memory of the day Emilie and I spend at the Acropolis 13yrs ago except that it was hot and we ran out of stuff to do. This time we planned to visit the Acropolis again but also to visit the new museum as we missed it previously. Emilie and I probably would have skipped this part of the trip, but the kids were excited as they have spent so much time reading Greek Mythology. I do think our familiarity with the Olympians and their stories made looking at the temples and sculptures dedicated to them more meaningful.
We decided to take a bus to check out the public transport. We even tried to research how to purchase tickets. We were able to find the bus route. We were unable to find out how to purchase a ticket, so we committed the criminal act of riding a bus without paying for a ticket. The kids were traumatized that their parents were such rule breakers.
The main highlights were saw were the Acropolis, the park where the ancient Olympics were, and the site of the first modern Olympics. After seeing those sites we needed some air conditioning so went to the Acropolis museum. Pro Tip: The ticket to the Acropolis appears to include the museum. Not the case.
We got an unexpected benefit from the marble carving class as we were able to understand the complexity and skill that went into the sculptures we were seeing. The kids really appreciated the display of the ancient tools that were used to carve the marble as they were the same as the ones we used.
We ended our day with a late dinner at a seafood restaurant close to the apartment. The highlight was our last piece of Orange pie of the tip.
Sounds like a great day I have been able to answer a couple of questions on Jeopardy after listening to the pod cast on the Greek gods with you !!!!! Greek Mythology isn't my strong point. !!!!
