A quick update on some of the unusual and unexpected financial transactions that have unfolded during this trip.
Cancelled TransAvia flight
TransAvia cancelled our flight from Amsterdam to Chania, Greece 24hrs before departure. Based on EU regulations, that entitles the consumer to some financial restitution.
Current Status: TransAvia has refunded our inital ticket cost (~$650), and has communicated they will also pay the penalty fee of 400EUR/ticket (~$1,600/total) within 6 weeks.
I would rather of flow direct to Chania instead of redirecting at the last minute to Heraklion, but if they come through with the penalty fee it will take away some of the sting
Lost Luggage by Lufthansa
When the Lufthansa affiliate Eurowings (who we booked when TransAvia cancelled) lost our luggage they told us we would be allowed 30EUR/day/passenger without luggage. We were without luggage for 3 days and submitted a claim for 360 EUR.
Current Status: Eurowings have acknowledged the claim via automated email but stated they are very busy with multiple consumer issues. I'm sure it sucks to work in customer service for an airline right now.
Broken Windshield in Italy
On the drive from Bolzano to Lucca/Pisa we were hit by a rock and the windshield on the Sierra Leon cracked. We didn't try to hide the crack when turning in the car at Pisa, but were shocked by the 800EUR charge for the damage. We made the calculated decision not to fight at the airport.
Current Status: Claim submitted to AmEX and All-State.
